The Ottawa Senators had a disappointing 2010-2011 campaign. They finished near the bottom of the pack in the Eastern Conference, a deflating year from a team that seemed like it had some real Stanley Cup potential in previous years but was never able to capitalize with a championship.

The team has some of its familiar names back for the upcoming year. That includes captain Daniel Alfredsson and Jason Spezza. Both of those guys missed significant amount of time last year, so they need to stay healthy. But they also need more threats on offense. Behind Spezza, who had just 57 points, the next leading scorer was defenseman Erik Karlsson with 45, and nobody else had more than 34 points.

So who's going to step up from them? There's a lot of guys in their early 20s that will be looking to land more ice team and more significant roles, and will hopefully give the Senators some more goal scoring power.

Improved defensive play would be one place to start as well, and there are some solid players on the blue line like Chris Phillips and Sergei Gonchar, and the 21-year-old Karlsson, who is a rising star.
