The Minnesota Wild had a decent season in 2010-2011, but it wasn't enough to make the postseason. In the crowded Western Conference, they stayed in the race through most of the year but missed out by about 10 points. The team has brought in some more talent and big names this year via trades and free agency, and they hope that puts them over the edge and into the playoffs.
This is a new look team in Minnesota for sure. The front line now features two high scoring threats formerly from the San Jose Sharks, Dany Heatley and Devin Setoguchi. They both came from the Sharks in trades, but they were dealt separately from one another over the summer. They'll be the wings with Mikko Koivu controlling the center, and the rest of the front lines have some talent as well, like number 2 center Matt Cullen, a blue collar two-way player with good skills.
Niklas Backstrom will be between the pipes, and he's a goalie with a lot of talent and capability, but he needs more consistency, as is the case with many netminders. More offense on the front lines should help take the pressure off through, and should make it easier for this Wild team to win games they wouldn't have last season. Be sure to find some Minnesota Wild tickets to games this season to see the new look Wild in action.
