The Chicago Whites Sox are a charter member of the American League. The White Sox haven’t won a World Series since 1917. However, their
history might have been far different had it not been for the
infamous “Black Sox” scandal surrounding the 1919 World Series. Several star players on the team helped to throw the championship to the
Cincinnati Reds in return for payments from gambling interests in Chicago.
As a result, Major League Baseball installed an “objective” commissioner
and several players involved in the scandal were banned from baseball for
life. They played at Comiskey Park from 1910 until 1990. |
