The Old Ball Coach Steve Spurrier had a banner year with the South Carolina Gamecocks football team. They had a lot of firsts which they had never accomplished before, and not only that, but they were led by a true freshman running back in Marcus Lattimore, which means that the next few years should be very bright for the team as well.

In 2011, the Gamecocks defeated a number 1 team for the first time in school history, when they toppled then number 1 Alabama. Then, they went to Florida, where Spurrier used to coach, and trounced the Gators, which was the first victory in school history for the Gamecocks at Florida. Finally, they won the SEC East division, another first for the school.

Ultimately though, the SEC schedule was just too tough for them to handle, as they lost to Auburn twice, once in the conference championship game, Arkansas and had a letdown game loss against Kentucky after beating Alabama. They finished 9-5 after losing in the Chick-fil-A bowl against Florida State.

As many highs as there were in 2010, you know Spurrier and company want a better year in 2011.
