Head coach Kirk Ferentz has been through a lot with the Iowa Hawkeyes during his tenure. He has gone 11-2 and 10-2 while winning the Big 10 conference on each occasion. There have also been some disappointing seasons mixed in, and right now they are coming off an 8-5 campaign in a season they thought could have been so much better.

In the 5 losses they had in the season, they lost be a combined 18 points, which means they were oh so close to having a sparkling record instead of going 8-5. For example, they lost by 1 against number 10 Wisconsin and they lost by three to number 8 Ohio State, and both of those games were winnable, as were their other three losses.

Still, the Hawkeyes were 7-2 before losing three straight, but then rebounded with a surprise win over the number 12 Missouri Tigers in the Insight Bowl. Now it's time to the team to build on that win and to right some of those wrongs that saw them lose so many tight, winnable games in 2010.

They will have to go on the road to Iowa State, Penn State, Minnesota and Nebraska, so it won't be easy, but Michigan, Michigan State, Pittsburgh and Northwestern will all come to Iowa City to play. The Big 10 is wide open and there for the taking to whichever team puts together the best run, and Ferentz would love the sight of another, long overdue, conference championship.
