Soundgarden was one of the biggest bands of the 1990s, as they had tons of hits and were at the forefront of the emerging alternative and Seattle grunge scene. But after all of their popularity, the band broke up, and didn't tour, put out new music, or do anything for a dozen years. Lead singer Chris Cornell went on to more success with other bands and on his own, but that was the end of Soundgarden.
But guess what? They're back, and after performing their first show in over a decade in 2010, they have been busy touring around, experimenting with new recordings, and much more.
They have plans to put out some albums including live albums and B-sides, and down the road could put out some full studio albums too. They already put out the compilation Telephantasm, which was packaged with the video game Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock, marking a first for the industrt.
Soundgarden is going on tour in the summer of 2011, which has a ton of fans really excited. They'll be performing a handful of summer shows in Canada, and then a lot of shows across the United States, mainly focusing on the East and West coast.
Their biggest songs from the old days were "Spoonman", "Black Hole Sun", "Fell on Black Days", "Pretty Noose", and "Blow up the Outside World". Their two biggest CDs were Superunknown and Down on the Upside, and they had five studio albums altogether.
